Know all men by these presents that I, Edna A. Manning, having arrived at the full age of twenty-one years, and having had a full and complete settlement with my guardian Joseph J. France, who is also executor of the estate of James Manning, my father, of which estate I am the sole heir, I do hereby acknowledge a full and complete settlement of said estates, and acknowledge receipt from the said executor and my said Guardian of all money and other personal property belonging to me. And I hereby release the said Joseph J. France as executor and guardian aforesaid, and his executors and administrators from all claims which I have or may have, either in law or equity, by reason of his guardianship and as executor.
And I hereby release the surety or the bond of the said Joseph J. France from all claims, either in law or equity, by reason of his qualification as said executor, or by reason of his said guardianship.
In testimony, whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature and seal at Portsmouth, Virginia this 5th day of May 1926.

11 December 1900--Death of a Former Citizen
Captain Edward Wilson Manning, a native of this city, but since the war residing in Wilmington, N.C. was paralyzed Saturday afternoon on the street and died Sunday morning. Captin Manning married Miss M. Fannie Brooks, oldest daughter of Mr. William Brooks, of this city in 1856.
Prior to the civil war Captain Manning was chief engineer of the United States man-of-war Wabash and a shipmate of Admiral Dewey.
At the breaking out of the war, he resigned and offered his services to the State of Virginia and was made a chief engineer, and was in Wilmington at the close of friends and relatives living in this city. He leaves a widow, two daughters and two sons to mourn their loss.
