The list consist of two candles, and candlesticks made of brass from the Maria Teresa, a brass turret and cannons, forming an ink well, and several miniature one pounders, making ideal paper weights, also made from the Teresa; three one pounders from the Maine and Spanish ships, and an antique lantern from Morris castle at Havana. There is a conglomerated mass of metal, said to representvacaum and steam gauges and revolution counter, from one of the Spanish ships, none of which are recognizable, but showing the fierce effect of the fires caused by the American shells.
There is a Spanish sword, a machete, a mauser rifle, and numerous smaller articles.

4 Oct 1889--Bank changes
At the last meeting of the Bank of Portsmouth the resignation of Mr. E. A. Hatton, as cashier, which had been previously tendered, was accepted with many expressions of regret. During Mr. Hatton's administration as cashier, for the past eight or nine years that institution has steadily prospered and is now in the best sort of financial condition. His uniform courtesy and kindness made for the bank many warm friends who will greatly miss him at his accoustomed place.
Mr. Joseph L. Bilisoly was elected cashier, and a better selection could not have been made, as he is a most popular gentlemen and energetic businessman. Mr. Charles Warner was elected teller of the bank in the place of Mr. Bilisoly, and the bank is fortunate in security for this position so obliging and popular young man.

20 Nov 1889---In and About the City--Items of Interest Gathered By Our Reporter Yesterday
The residence of Mr. E. A. Hatton, the late cashier of the Bank of Portsmouth, was the scene of a very pleasant affair yesterday evening about half past six o'clock at being the occasion of the presentation to Mr. Hatton from the bank of a very elegant silver punch bowl and ladle, beautifully chased and embossed with the most tasteful designs. On one side the bowl was handsomely engraved: "E. A. Hatton, November 1, 1889", and on the reverse side the legend: Presented by the Bank of Portsmouth."
The bowl was the handsomest manufactureed by the famous Gorham Manufacturing Company of New York and was ordered through our popular High street jeweler, Mr. C. S. Sherwood and was tendered to Mr. Hatton in accordance with a resolution adopted at a recent meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bank to present him with this testimonial as an evidence of their high appreciation of his services as cashier of the bank during the last nine years.
The following members of the Board who had been appointed a committee to select a suitable testimonial and present it waited upon Mr. Hatton last nigh and performed that very agreeable duty: Judge L. R. Watts, Messrs. O. V. Smith, R. J. Neely, and Thomas Scott. Several other members of the Board were also present.
Mr. Smith made the presentation speech in a few, happy and well timed words, and although taken quite unaware Mr. Hatton responded in a brief but very appropriate speech, expressive of his pleasurable emotions at the very gratifying proof of esteem offered him by his former business associates.
The committee remained some time at Mr. Hatton's hospitable residence and were very handsomely entertained by that gentleman and his most excellant lady.

31 Dec 1891---resolutions of Respect
At a meeting of the vestry of St. John's church, Portsmouth, held December 27th, 1891, the Rector, Rev. J. D. Powell, M.D. Eastwood and L. R. Watts were appointed a committee to draft resolutions expressive of their sorrow at the death of Mr. E. Alexander Hatton, senior warden. Said comittee subsequently reported the following preamble and resolutions:
Again, and for the third time within twelve month, death has invaded our little band and removed from our council and a sociation our oldest and most honored member.
Edward Alexander Hatton, our elder brother, a vestryman of this church from its consecration, and for more than thirty years one of its wardens, quietly fell on sleep on the morning of Friday, December 25th.
On the anniversary of Christ's nativity, having finished his course in faith, he rested from his labors and entered upon that rest which remains for the people of God.
In the death of Mr. Hatton the Diocese of Virginia has lost from its Concil, in which he had so long and often served, a wise, conservative and efficient delegate; this church one of its most consistent and devoted communicants, and this vestry its senior warden and most experienced member.
The death of such a man must of necessity cause us genuine sorrow, and we esteem it a privilege to place on record an expression of our high appreciation of his Christian character and sterling worth.
Mr. Hatton was devoted in his loyalty to the Episcopal Church and a firm believer in its doctrines as taught by the fathers. He was an evangelical churchman, strong in his convictions and ever ready to maintain them with the ability and earnestness characteristic of the man; therefore be it.
Resolved, That, while lamenting the death of our friend and brother, which is to each one of us a personal loss, we have the conforting assurance that all is well with him
"For tis not death to die,
To leave this weary road,
And midst the Brotherhood in high,
To be at home with God"
Resolved, That we tender to his stricken widow and children the assurance of our loving sympathy, and prayfully commend them to the consolations of that faith which sustained him and to the tender mercies of that God who is too wise to err and too good to be unkind.
Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the papers of Norfolk and Portsmouth and in the "Southern Churchman," and that a copy be forwarded by the Regista to the widow of our dead brother.
