Johns---At a hospital in Clifton Forge, Va., Saturday morning, September 16, 1939, at 2 o'clock after a short illness, Charles White Johns, husband of Mrs. Delia Brooks Johns and son of the late James Madison Johns and Mrs. Pauline Cassell Johns.
The body will arrive over the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon and will be conveyed to Oak Grove Cemetery where committal services will be conducted at 5:30 o'clock by the Rev. C. H. Holmead, rector of Trinity P. E. Church. Friends invited.

Charles White Jones, chief engineer of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, who died Saturday morning at Clifton Forge, was buried yesterday afternoon in Oak Grove Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted at noon in St. Paul's P. E. church, Richmond. The body, accompanied by the family, arrived in Portsmouth via the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway at 5:30 o'clock. Committal services were conducted by the Rev. Charles H. Holmead, rector of Trinity P. E. Church.
The flowers were numerous and beautiful. There was a large gathering of friends at the cemetery, to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Johns.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gracie Johns, two daughters, Mrs. George W. Misthy, of New Bern, N. C., and Mrs. P. C. Tarlington, of Toledo, O.; a son, James H. Johns, of Baltimore; a brother, Charles W. Johns, of Richmond.
Mr. Johns, who had been engaged for many years in this city as a telegrapher, was widely known. He was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth.
Funeral service will be conducted at the grave in Oak Grove Cemetery tomorrow morning.
A simple funeral was Mr. Johns' request, and that no flowers be used was also his desire.

Virginia Beach--Miss Mary Adelia JOhns, 73, of 205 38th St. died Friday at 9:30 a.m. in her home.
A native of Portsmouth, she lived here 40 years. She started the first public library at Virginia Beach and donated the books to the new city library when that opened in 1959.
She was known as "the storytelling lady" at W. T. Cooke Elementary School, where she entertained the students with her narratives.
She was a member of the Princess Anne Garden Club and Galilee Episcopal Church. Until her illness, she was a Gray Lady.
Survivors include an uncle, Eugene K. Brooks, of Virginia Beach; and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Rev. John H. Jordan Jr., Maestas Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.

She was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church and served on the altar guild. She was also a member of Great Bridge Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Chanco Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonies, Princess Anne Garden Club, and a friend and patron of the Virginia Beach library.
Survivors include an uncle, Eugene K. Brooks, of Virginia Beach.
A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Rev. John H. Jordan Jr. Maestas Funeral Home has charge.
