Miss Hattie May Manning---Miss Hattie May Manning died in the residence of her father, Mr. s. D. T. Manning, 643 Armstrong Street, Park View, at 10:40 o'clock yesterday morning, after a brief illness of scarlet fever. She was in the 18th year of her age.
She was possessed of a most amiable disposition and was a general favorite amidst a host of acquaintances to whom this announcement will come as a distinct blow.
She was one of the graduates at the closing session of the Portsmouth High School, and was honored with the selection of valadictorian of her class, and was awarded the Sherwood Medal, thus closing her school career with distinguished honor.
She leaves besides her father, three brothers and two sisters, who are Messrs. Jno. E. , W. R. and Walter L. Manning and Misses Jennie A. and Agnes A. Manning.
The funeral service will take place at the grave in the Oak Grove Cemetery at three o'clock this afternoon.

Miss Hattie May Manning---The funeral service of Miss Hattie May Manning, daughter of S. D. T. Manning, who died last Sunday morning in the residence of her father, 643 Armstrong Street, Park View, took place at three o'clock yesterday afternoon, in the Oak Grove Cemetery, and was largely attended, attesting the wide acquaintance of the deceased.
Rev. R. D. Stephenson, pastor of the Park View Baptist Church, conducted the service, and was assisted by Rev. Henry W. Dowding, pastor of the First Congregational Church, and Rev. Geo. J. Hobday, superintendent of the Portsmouth Orphan Asylum.
The pall-bearers were: D. P. Hooks, F. K. Berville, Thos. R. Webb and Marshall Overman.
There were many handsome floral tokens of respect and esteem.

Herbert E. Manning, residing at 531 Armstrong Street, Park View, died at 9:50 o'clock yesterday morning in a local hospital after an illness of a few days duration. He was 28 years old.
He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Irene Manning, as well as a daughter, Monie Manning; a son, Eugene Manning, and the following brothers: John C. and William A. Manning, this city, and Kenneth G. Manning, of the United States Navy.
Mr. Manning was possessed of many friends, who will regret to hear of his death.
The body will be conveyed to the residence, where the funeral service will be conducted at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Herbert E. Manning, who died last Sunday in a local hospital, was buried yesterday afternoon in Oak Grove Cemetery. The funeral service was conducted at 4 o'clock in the residence, 531 Armstrong Street, by Rev. M. S. colonna, pastor of Central Methodist Church. The service was largely attended. The Central Labor Union of the city, with which Mr. Manning was identified, was represented by a delegation.
The pallbearers were as follows: Sidney Finley, L. C. Major, George Briquett, J. R. Stewart, Stanley Hall and Charles Vellines.
There were many handsome floral tokens of esteem.
During the service Wray Morse sang a solo.
