From the "Pioneers of Massachusetts" by Charles Pope--Robert Whitman, age 20, from the parish of Little Minories, England, came in the Abigail in June 1635. Settled at Ipswich; propr., goatkeeper, husbandman, 1644. Had land, formerly belonging to Susan Manning in 1639, and all Thomas Manning's right in house in land in 1647.
*Perhaps this Thomas went to Massachusetts instead of Virginia

Also...Thomas Manning, husbandman, Ipswich, propr. 1638. Sold house and land 15 March 1647. Deposed in 1671, age about 76 years. Inventory of his estate taken 30 Sept. 1675, presented by Daniel Manning. (This would make Thomas born about 1595 and about 40 years old in 1635 when he would have come to America with his brothers.

This indenture made of 16th day of Augt. in the year of our Lord Christ 1734 and of 8th year of the reign of our soveign in Ports. King George of land of Great Britain etc. between John Hogdson of the one part and John Manning of the other part both of Norfolk County and Ports. aforesaid witnesseth that the said John Hogdson by over judge bearing date one day before the date hereof for of consideration therein expressed did bargain and sell unto the said Thos. Manning his heirs etc. some certain tract and parcel of land containing one hundred acres situate lying and being in the head of the Southern Branch of Elizb. River in the County of Norfolk within northwest woods being part of a patent granted to Peter Cartwright bearing date of 29th of Sept. 1693 for the said one hundred acres of land lyethe on the southwest side of the cypress swamp and is the same land that Peter Cartwright sold unto Wm Wallace as by a deed recorded in the records of Norfolk County bearing date of 18th day of May 1697. will appraise and now by the said John Hodgson sold and transferred unto the said Thos. Manning to have and to hold for and during the term of one whole year as by the two recorded indentures (?) at large appeareth. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said John Hodgson for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen pounds of good (?) to have already paid (?) to be paid (?) whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and doth hereby pay with and discharge the said Thos. Manning from the said indenture of lease and from every part and parcel thereof Hath granted occupied released and confirmed and by these present doth grant (?) release and confirm unto the said Thos. Also. it's worth noting that at the beginning of the deed to says the deed is between John Hodgson and John Manning, but throughout the rest of the deed it refers to Thos. Manning buying the land. Therefore I think the John Manning referred to at first is actually a clerical error and should be Thos. Manning.
