Mrs. Sarah Cox Manning, widow of the late Rev. John N. Manning, died at her home, No. 317 North Street, Sunday afternoon after an illness of two months. She was in the sixty-third year of her age. Mrs. Manning since the death of her husband many years ago has been engaged in teaching, becoming associated with her sister, Miss Virginia Staples, in conducting the Portsmouth primary school. The funeral will take place from the residence.

5 January 1899--Death--Mrs. Emma Stevens Wigg Passes Away
Mrs. Emma Stevens Wigg, one of Portsmouth's oldest and most highly esteemed residents, died at her residence, no. 118 Dinwiddie street yesterday afternoon, after a lingering illness. Deceased was born in New London, Conn., seventy-four years ago and had resided here for twenty-five years, during which time she has made hosts of friends by whom her demise is greatly regretted. She was the widow of the late Major William Hazzard Wigg, U.S. M. C., and a sister of the late Rear Admiral Stevens, U.S.N. Mrs. Wigg leaves four children---Mr. Sam P. Wigg, Mrs. Jennie Cassell, and Miss Neta Wigg, of this city, and Mrs. Edward W. Martin, of New York to mourn their loss. Notice of the funeral will be given later.

7 January 1899---Funeral of Mrs. Emma Stevens Wigg
Yesterday afternoon the funeral of Mrs. Emma Stevens Wigg, relict of the late Major Willia Hazzard Wigg, took place at 3 o'clock from Trinity P. E. Church, of which during life the deceased had been, a devoted and valued member. The solemn services were conducted by the rector, the Rev. Jas. B. Funstone at the presence of a large assemblage of sorrowing relatives and friends. At the conclusion of the services the remains were laid to rest in Oak Grove cemetery. The following gentlemen were pall-bearers: Colonel William H. Stewart, Major J. F. Crocker, Captain C. L. Phillips, Captain W. H. Murdaugh, Messrs. G. H. Curtis, H. C. Cassell, E. N. Wilcox, John C. Niemeyer.
